About Us

As the Central Valley operating affiliate of the San Diego Surf Soccer Club, Central Valley Surf shares the Surf “Best of the Best” mission – to provide boys and girls players starting at young ages (U8) with the best coaching and player development program in our area. Central Valley Surf coaches and teams are led by Director of Coaching Vince Meyer who brought to the Club a vast amount of knowledge and experience as a youth coach and Director and has played a major role in the rise of the organization as one of the elite programs in the Central Valley.

Since it’s inception the Club has enjoyed tremendous success having a large number of it’s players move on to play soccer in College. Visit our ALUMNI page to view more information regarding our success in the college placement of our athletes. Central Valley Surf also has produced many top level teams including multiple State Champions and National Champions as well as teams that have participated and won many of the most prestigious tournaments in the Country (see “Our History below for more information). Central Valley Surf also hosts several Nationally ranked tournaments including the Surf Champions Cup which is held each September. In 2019 the Surf Champions cup drew a record 400 girls and boys teams as one of the largest and most successful tournaments in the Country. Visit our EVENTS page for more information on our tournaments.

Our History
Central Valley Surf was originally founded in 2004 as Stockton Monarcas FC by our now Club President, Benjamin Gonzalez. Ben is a long time Central Valley coach and community activist with a passion for helping the youth in the community. The club started out with one team which was a talented group of 1992 born players that quickly made a name for themselves by wining the first CYSA State Cup in Stockton’s history. As State Champions the team went on to participate in the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships in Idaho. At this week long event the team had a fantastic performance defeating multiple State Championship from around the West Coast and advanced to the Championship game of the event. Unfortunately they lost a close match to the powerhouse Southern California representative but not without impressing many during their excellent State Cup and Regionals run.

As Stockton Monarcas began to draw players from all around the Central Valley, the Club rebranded to Central Valley Monarcas Academy in order to welcome families and players from throughout out the region. During the history of our Club we have formed many top level boys and girls teams. Among those teams there was one very special group of boys that through their success and consistency put themselves and also put our Club on the National spotlight between 2011 and 2016. They were known as the Monarcas Academy Aztec Warriors. This super talented and motivated group of players managed to win a National Championship in 2013 along with multiple State titles, several US West Coast Regional Championships and won many top level Nationally known events including Surf Cup, Surf College Cup, The Las Vegas Mayors Cup and others. In 2014 they earned an invite to the world famous Dallas Cup event in which they placed as Semifinalists among some of the best International competition. The team also managed to retain the #1 National Ranking in the country for several years. The vast majority of the players on this roster moved on to play soccer in college with most of them obtaining athletic and academy scholarships for college.

Monarcas Academy became part of the Surf family in March of 2018 and re-branded as Central Valley Surf Soccer Club.

Mission Statement
Central Valley Surf Soccer Club seeks to empower positive, contributing citizens and provide the best support and education to the youth soccer community. We have no doubt that our core values (integrity, discipline, responsibility, and work ethic) promote a safe learning environment and enable all involved parties to achieve short and long-term success. Soccer competition is the means by which we can learn and cultivate these core values.

The Path
We encourage and promote each individual to perform at the highest level at which they are capable. We are committed to aid each participant in their pursuit of excellence at all levels of soccer achievements. We do not believe in a win-at-all-costs mentality. We feel that it is our responsibility to champion these core values in an effort to establish strong and honorable individuals in our communities. Central Valley Surf Soccer Club has a tradition of developing players and teams to compete at the highest levels of the sport. We seek to maximize the potential of individuals and teams through elite soccer training and competition.

Central Valley Surf Soccer Club Values
Teaching youth the principles of integrity, discipline, respect, and work ethic is the mission of Central Valley Surf Soccer. Soccer competition provides the platform for youth to learn, cultivate, and implement these core values.

Player Development
The number one objective at Central Valley Surf is teaching youth. We are passionate about the quality of soccer instruction our players receive and our staff have a superior ability to facilitate player development. Our players work hard to develop their skills, compete, and win. All of that effort, however, is wasted if the youth we teach leave our program without cultivating traits that place winning and losing in proper perspective. For our coaches helping youth develop character is as important as helping them develop soccer skill.

Integrity – Too often in youth soccer the pursuit of winning is the key driver in player, team, coaching, and club decisions. This “win at all costs” mentality is contrary to our mission at Central Valley Surf. While we pursue excellence in competition, winning should never supersede the observance of integrity.

Respect – We believe respect is best taught by example and we attempt to hire only those individuals who will support this ideal through their own behavior. While we pursue competitive achievement, winning should never supersede the observance of respect. We actively teach that how we act in any situation is far more important than the score of a game and we expect our players, coaches, and spectators to demonstrate respect in their behavior on and off the field.

Discipline and Work Ethic – Helping youth become exceptional soccer players requires a great deal of time and effort. We believe in teaching our players the law of the harvest and that there is much to be gained by hard work. We expect our players and coaches to push themselves at a very high level to not only reach their maximum potential as players and coaches but more importantly as people.

Safe Learning Environment – Youth soccer development is most likely to succeed in an environment where players are encouraged to try new things and are allowed to make mistakes without fear. When young players are willing to take calculated risks, learning takes place through success but also through failure. Our coaches and staff are committed to taking the time to teach and develop both players and teams.
